
Off-Site Adoptions
Volunteers with basic dog handling skills and knowledge of dog behavior are encouraged and welcome to participate in our off-site events to promote off-site adoption of our animals and general outreach in our community.
Materials to gather at shelter:
Plastic bin in Front Office, containing:
Dog adoption forms
Binders with adoptable animals
Volunteer opportunity flyers
Kennel cards
Adopt Me vests/bandanas
Treats and poop bags
Blankets and towels
Leashes and harnesses
Dog Adoption packets containing:
Adoption handout
Each dog’s microchip packet
20/20 Pet Food Express coupon
Pet Supplies Plus handout
Medical booster shot handout
Print out of medical records
Post-surgery care instruction
Transport carriers for small dogs
Preparation:
Organize files and supplies
Sign out dogs in Chameleon.
Make sure all dogs are wearing collars with “YCAS” ID tag.
Load dogs into car.
Transport dogs (in crates) to off-site location.
Set Up:
Greet and introduce yourself to staff at off-site location.
Retrieve supplies from back room.
Set up tables and chairs.
Set up materials on table.
Place sign near tables.
When processing an off-site adoption, make sure the adoption form is filled out completely - with full name, address, phone number(s) and email address.
Double check/ask that the physical address noted is a mailing address. If not, make sure they put down a mailing address as well. [Note: P.O. Box addresses do not count as physical addresses - please have adopter write down both the physical and P.O. Box.]
When checking the driver’s license of an adopter, add the license number to the adoption form and verify that the spelling of name on ID matches what is written down.

Envelope with extra adoption handouts, contracts and forms
Plastic water bowl

Clipboard
Remember to give dogs water access and to take them outside for potty breaks.
Remind public to approach dogs slowly and to give dogs treats with an open palm.
If dogs are reactive:
Put up a visual barrier such as a sheet or shade.
Give chew toys to keep them occupied.
If a member of the public is acting inappropriately:
Kindly ask them to give the dogs a break as they can get overwhelmed
Find the person in charge and notify them of the public member’s behavior.

We accept cash only and can provide adopters with receipt from receipt book.
